Adler Mannheim

Adler Mannheim Hockey

With seven DEL championships (most recently in 2015) and two German cup championships in 2003 and 2007, the Adler Mannheim, who have been playing in owayo jerseys since 2010, are the most successful German hockey team. Part of this success can also be attributed to their fanbase. Mannheim is a city that loves hockey. Therefore, it's not only the close to 7.000 season ticket holders that get goosebumps when “It's hockey time.” rings through the SAP Arena. For this interview we spoke with captain Christoph Ullmann.

How often do you practice and what does your training consist of?

We practice six days a week with monday being our only day off. Every morning at 9 AM we meet in the locker room. The first thing we do is strength and conditioning training. Around noon, we hit the ice for approximately 60 to 75 minutes followed by a cool-down. After that we are free to go to the sauna or get checked by our trainer. Of course, focused preparation for the next opponent is also a huge part of every practice session.

Does your team have any rituals?

Not as a team but some of our players do. One of our teammates, for example, always puts on his left skate first. Many players also listen to music with their headphones, which has almost become a sort of ritual in and of itself.

How do you get motivated before a game?

Every game is preceded by an extensive analysis of the opponent. This tactical preparation is very important for us. Of course, the coach also holds a motivational speech right before the game. Individual players will often do the same in front the whole team.

How do you celebrate a victory?

We absolutely cherish the moment right after a victory. Other than that, we don't really celebrate that much. There are usually not that many days between games and we need to stay in top form. Like a former German national soccer coach used to say: After the game is before the game.

What does owayo mean to you?

The owayo jersey is the prettiest dress in our wardrobe, so to speak. It's our armour. I get goosebumps whenever I walk into the locker room before a game and I see our jerseys lined up next to each other.

What do you like about your jerseys the most?

There's no comparing our current jerseys to what we used to wear only a few years ago. In my opinion, the quality is superb and we are perfectly equipped for the game. Above all, our classic designs just look good. The jersey's popularity with our fans is testament to that.
